Alex Becomes Fenerbahce's New Captain

Fenerbahce announced on their website Thursday that the team has selected Alex de Souza as their new captain. Alex, who just joined the team in training yesterday, released a statement saying "I am very glad to be the new captain. I want to wish you the best of luck and welcome our new friends to Fenerbahce."

The 29-year-old star joined Fenerbahce in 2004. He scored his 250th career goal in April vs. Sivasspor, and signed a new two-year deal with Fenerbahce at the end of the season. Alex replaces former captain Umit Ozat who moved to German side FC Koln.
