Schalke 04 Issue New Bid for Appiah

Schalke 04 Issue New Bid for Appiah
By Nathan L. Redd

According to England's Sky Sports and the Ghana Football Association, German side Schalke 04 issued a new bid for Stephen Appiah on Friday. Schalke had previously been trying to land the Fenerbahce star but the deal stalled when Fenerbahce and Schalke tried to reach an agreement for a swap.

Fenerbahce issued a statement on Friday detailing what happened in the discussions with Schalke for Appiah. They fell short of saying a deal would not occur; only indicating that a deal had not yet happened. Just a week ago, Schalke officials issued a statement confirming that they had "failed in landing Appiah." However, the German side appears to determined to make a deal for Appiah work. Appiah has been vocal lately about his desire to play in England, but Schalke may be the best option at the moment after a deal with England's West Ham United appears dead.
