Fatih Tekke, Mehmet Topuz Linked to Fenerbahce
By Nathan L. Redd and Ugur Turker
Fenerbahce, in an effort to bolster their roster heading into their Austrian preseason training camp, is rumored to be interested in Kayserispor star Mehmet Topuz and Zenit St. Petersburg Striker Fatih Tekke. Topuz has been linked to Fenerbahce previously, but it was believed that a deal for the right wing / center back player was not going to happen.
Tekke is very familiar with Turkcell Super Lig, having spent three different stints at Trabzonspor. It was just a year ago that Trabzonspor sent him to Russian side Zenit St. Petersburg for nearly $14 million. The soon-to-be thirty-year-old striker also has 23 caps with the Turkish National Team since 1998, scoring 9 goals during his tenure.
Topuz will be twenty-four years old later this year, and he's become a hot commodity in the Turkcell Super Lig this past season. He has made 102 appearances with Kayserispor since 2004, and he also has 11 caps for the Turkish National Team.
Fenerbahce is evaluating their options following the disappointing ruling by the Turkish Futbol Federation regarding foreign players. Fener is reportedly ready to make several transfers, but bringing in another foreign player will be extremely difficult, as the squad already has more under contract than are allowed by the new TFF ruling.
