Is Fenerbahce Ready to Move for Kuranyi?

Is Fenerbahce Ready to Move for Kuranyi?
By Nathan L. Redd

Unconfirmed reports out of Germany indicate that Fenerbahce may be ready to make a move for Schalke 04 Striker Kevin Kuranyi. Kuranyi's name was rumored in a deal that would send Stephen Appiah to Schalke for either Kuranyi and/or Halil Altintop earlier this week, but the deal never became final.

The latest rumor states that Fenerbahce is ready to offer Kuranyi a five-year deal worth 40 Million Euros. Schalke's asking price has been rumored to be at least 15 Million Euros for the striker.

Fenerbahce is eager to get their lineup intact during their Austrian camp. The team takes the pitch for a preseason friendly against St. Polten tonight in Vienna.

I don't think he's coming - he already stated to Skysports that although he appreciates the respect shown by the interest from Fener and Zico, he does not want to move to Istanbul because it will unsettle his family - his wife just gave birth a few months ago. I think Halil is more believable (with regards to moving to Fener) given he has already express an "interest" to play with Fener. Fener also needs to reduce it's foreigner quota - if they give Appiah away for Halil - they will accomplish this.

I agree, Erol. Bringing in Karanyi doesn't really accomplish our goal of unloading a foreign player, so I don't know that it would make much sense. I personally would like to see us bring Altintop, but I don't know if Schalke will do that. We don't have a lot of options at the moment and like you said, we have to get rid of one foreign player. I'm going to be sad to see Appiah go, if he is the one. He has been one of my favorite players to watch.
