Fenerbahce Defeats St. Polten 2-0
By Nathan L. Redd

In the first preseason friendly of the camp, Fenerbahce defeated their Vienna rivals St. Polten 2-0 in Austria. Deivid de Souza found the back of the net both times for Fener, in the 6th minute and again nine minutes later. His goals have Fenerbahce fans hoping it's a glimpse of the future, while Deivid is eager to put last season's disappointing performance behind him.

The team had a scary moment just before the break after Semih Senturk had to leave with a head injury. He was evaluated and released from the hospital shortly after. He returned to camp after his release. No details on the extent of his injury have become available yet.

A crowd of several thousand was in attendance, including numerous Fener fans. The fans got their first glimpse of new Canaries Wederson, Gorhan, Kazim-Richards and Gokhan Gonul. Roberto Carlos was in attendance but did not play. Zico went with a starting eleven of Serdar Kulbilge, Tumer Metin, Mateja Kezman, Mehmet Aurelio, Onder Turaci, Semih Senturk, Can Arat, Deniz Baris, Ugur Boral, Edu Dracena, and Deivid de Souza. Colin Kazim-Richards replaced Semih Senturk at the 44th minute after Senturk's injury. Gurhan, Kemal, Wederson, Gokhan, and Selcuk also came into the game in the second half.

Fenerbahce will now have training days on Monday and Tuesday before returning Wednesday for another preseason friendly vs. ASK Trenkwalder Schwadorf. (Photo courtesy of Fenerbahce.org)

Yeah, I don't put too much stock into these preseason games. I am happy to see Deivid get some confidence, though.
