UEFA Champions League First Opponent: Anderlecht

UEFA Champions League First Opponent: Anderlecht
By Nathan L. Redd
If Fenerbahce hopes to make a deep run in the UEFA Champions League, they'll have to go through the Belgian champions first. UEFA held the Champions League draw earlier today in Nyon, Switzerland, and Fenerbahce drew Sporting Anderlecht as their first opponent.
Anderlecht, located in Brussels, has a history rich in success. They've won their domestic title 28 times and has a UEFA Cup title to their credit as well. They have five European titles and have only finished outside of the top five in Belgium twice, the last time coming in 1973. They've been playing in the Belgian first division since 1936. They also know a little about Turkish futbol, having Turk Serhat Akin on the roster just one year ago. The squad is led by Manager Franky Vercauteren.
The first leg of the Fenerbahce vs. Anderlecht battle will take place on August 14 or 15. The second leg will take place on August 28 or 29.
