Will Ayegbeni Yakubu Join Fenerbahce?

Fenerbahce has been linked to signings of numerous players in recent weeks, and the latest appears to be Middlesbrough's (England) star Ayegbeni Yakubu. This rumor appears to have more legs than previous ones, however, even prompting Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate to respond.

When asked about Yakubu, Southgate responded "It is the first I have heard about it. It is not something I am aware of. As far as I am concerned, despite the recent run he has had, he is our top goalscorer and we are not in a rush to lose players of that importance."

Southgate went on to say "I am under no pressure to sell players, that's for sure, and from my point of view, that is a great position to be in. Obviously, as we did with Franck Queudrue earlier in the year, if you get an offer you think is something you should take as a club, then that decision has to be made. But we are not looking to move any of our better players on, that's for sure."

Yakubu has not scored a goal in eleven games for the English side, but he remains the club's top goal scorer on the season. The 24-year-old Nigerian has 16 goals on the season, with his last coming in a 2-1 win over Reading on February 24. He joined Middlesbrough for 5.7 million GBP after coming over from Portsmouth two years ago. Fenerbahce was also linked to him when he was with Portsmouth. Reports are that Fenerbahce has offered Yakubu 50,000 GBP per week, which could prompt him to join the Yellow Canaries. Thus far, the club has been mum regarding any discussions with the star.
