Fenerbahce Defeats Gaziantepspor 2-0

Fenerbahce took the next step toward their 17th Turkcell Super Lig championship on Friday with a 2-0 win at Gaziantep. Alex de Souza scored the first Fener goal on a penalty at the 30 minute mark. The teams went into the half with a 1-0 score, but 12 minutes after the break, Tuncay Sanli found the back of the net (57') and put the game securely in the hands of the Yellow Canaries. The defense, along with GK Serdar, preserved the clean sheet and a precious three points. Umit Ozat picked up a yellow card for Fenerbahce (28').

With the win, Fener now sits seven points up on second place Besiktas with only five Super Lig games remaining. Besiktas hosts Antalyaspor on Saturday at 19:00 (12 Noon EST in the U.S.). The pressure now shifts abruptly to BJK, who must pick up three points to stay in the race. Additionally, Besiktas will start a 17-year-old in goal tomorrow following Runje's not-as-lengthy-as-it-should-be suspension and an injury to his backup. Antalyaspor currently sits in the 10th spot in the league with 37 points. However, only four points separate them from Sivasspor in the fifth spot. Third place Galatasaray will host Caykur Rizespor on Sunday.

There was an article posted about Edu's suspension being reduced before this one was posted. However, what Edu did was not nearly as bad as what Runje did. If a Fener player had done what Runje did, they would have been suspended for the rest of the season. Also, arguably, Edu is not a crucial part of Fener's gameplan, while Runje certainly is.
