Fenerbahce Ready to Get Back to Business

Fenerbahce Ready to Get Back to Business

By Nathan L. Redd

After a week off for international competition, Fenerbahce is ready to get back to business Saturday against Ankaraspor. While Fenerbahce is looking to inch closer to Sivasspor and Galatasaray in the standings, Ankaraspor is just trying to keep their heads above water. A third of the way into the season, Ankaraspor is second from the bottom with only eight points. They've won only one game this season, losing six and drawing in five contests. They've scored only nine goals in twelve games so far this season.

Seeing Ankaraspor on the schedule might be just what Fenerbahce needs this weekend. Many of the starters may get the day off on Saturday after a tense week of international competition. With a pivotal UEFA Champions League match coming up against Inter Milan, it may be difficult for Fener to focus completely on Ankaraspor. That's just what Ankara Coach Hikmet Karaman is hoping for. Bringing the Leopards to Sukru Saracoglu doesn't look like much of a match on paper, so his team being overlooked by Fener suits him just fine.

Mehmet Yilmaz and company know that they're going to need some pivotal wins in the coming weeks if they are to avoid relegation this season. A huge win over Fenerbahce in Kadikoy could change the momentum for their season and get them headed on the right track. Fenerbahce will face the difficult task of putting forth a great effort only three days before their crucial match at San Siro. If Fenerbahce are to win another Turkcell Super Lig title this year, important wins against teams like Ankaraspor will determine the true character of the team. Saturday's match could give them the opportunity to move closer to that intended goal.
