Yildirim Ready to Announce Another Transfer?
By Nathan L. Redd
Speaking at the Iznik Fenerbahce Association's 100th Anniversary Celebration, Fenerbahce President Aziz Yildirim hinted that there may be another big-name player coming to Kadikoy. "We will add a new player to our squad, but I don’t want to reveal the name right now" said Yildirim to supporters.
There has been speculation for several weeks that Fenerbahce may add another big-name striker or possibly an attacking midfielder to the club. That speculation cooled, however, once the Turkish Futbol Federation announced their disappointing ruling on the foreign player limit. Since that announcement, attention has focused more on who is leaving Kadikoy rather than who is coming in.
The rumored names mentioned as possibly coming to Fenerbahce could fill out a Champions League squad. Andriy Shevchenko, Halil Altintop, Adriano, and Ronaldo are just some of names mentioned as potential Fenerbahce suitors. However, the club has been silent on the transfer front in recent weeks. Comments made by players as well as management indicated that the team is likely finished bringing in players for the upcoming season. Still, the loss of Tuncay Sanli and Umit Ozat have some fans concerned about the team's leadership for the upcoming season. Message boards have been the focus of fans' concern about the scoring options up front. Can Colin Kazim-Richards and Wederson pick up the slack that Tuncay leaves behind? Is the midfield experienced enough to provide attacking options while setting up Mateja Kezman up front? Is the addition of Roberto Carlos enough to bolster the Fenerbahce defense that was lackluster at times last season?
No one knows if the Fenerbahce roster is complete yet except for Aziz Yildirim and his board members. With only one preseason friendly remaining until the Super Cup and the start of the new season, Fenerbahce fans shouldn't have to wait long to see if a new star is headed to Kadikoy.
